Dr. Ishrat Saberin
Co-Manager, Policy, Advocacy & Research Committee (PAR)

Dr. Ishrat Saberin is an internationally trained physician (ITP) originally from Bangladesh, where she completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). She obtained MRCP UK, a postgraduate qualification in Internal Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom. With more than a decade of clinical training and practice across Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Emergency Medicine—including approximately six and a half years as a Family Physician (General Practitioner) with the Ministry of Health of Oman—she has worked across rural clinics, suburban practices, and tertiary healthcare settings. This breadth of experience has shaped her understanding of patient care across diverse communities and health system contexts.
As Co-Manager of the Policy, Advocacy & Research Committee at the ITPC, Dr Saberin strongly believes that ITPs are essential part of Canada’s health workforce solution, especially at a time of physician shortages and growing barriers to healthcare access. Through her own professional journey and her engagement with ITP communities, she understands both the depth of expertise ITPs bring and the systemic barriers that prevents them from contributing fully. At ITPC, she leads policy, advocacy, research, and systems-level initiatives that aim to advance fair, transparent, inclusive and competency-based pathways to licensure. Her work is guided by a commitment to health equity, healthcare access, and the belief that strengthening pathways for ITPs can help build a more resilient health system for communities across Canada.
Dr. Saberin brings a strategic mindset, a solutions-driven approach, and strong skills in adult medical education, curriculum design, learner assessment, mentorship, and evidence-informed innovation. She is a graduate of the Teaching Scholars Program at the SickKids Learning Institute, accredited by the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. Through this program, she has strengthened her educational leadership skills and her ability to design inclusive, learner-centred, and feedback-informed learning environments. Her strengths lie in connecting clinical knowledge, educational strategy, process improvement, and systems thinking to support professional growth, strengthen collaborative practice, and contribute to broader health workforce solutions.
Outside her professional work, Dr. Saberin enjoys DIY projects, bicycling, travelling, baking, and reading. These activities help her recharge, stay creative, and bring fresh perspectives to her work. She values the real-life skills these interests nurture, including strategic planning, problem-solving, adaptability, time management, creativity, and reflective thinking. She brings these same qualities, along with heart and commitment, into her roles as a physician, educator, advocate, and leader.
