MEET OUR VOLUNTEERS

Dr. Sharon Yelitza Cipagauta Rubiano
- ITPC has helped me in incredible ways, and I wanted to give back to our community. My goal is to return the support I received and help other physicians achieve their professional dreams in Canada.
- It was definitely teaching my first class in the MCCQE prep program. I absolutely love to teach, and being able to guide my peers through that milestone was incredibly rewarding.
- I want us to be able to give all our clinical knowledge and expertise to Canada. We are capable, extensively trained professionals ready to step in, contribute positively to the health system, and demonstrate exactly how valuable we are to this country.
- I love to teach! For me, education isn't just about transferring medical skills, it is also about modeling professionalism, humanity, empathy, responsibility, and, very importantly, ethics. We must teach not just how medicine is practiced in a safe manner, but also always remember that we are human beings treating human beings. I want students to feel safe and encouraged to learn without fear, inspiring them to step into teaching roles themselves and completely change the future of medical education.

Dr. Rimsha Tahir
I joined ITPC because I wanted to give back to a community that understands the unique challenges internationally trained physicians face while navigating licensure and integration into the Canadian healthcare system. As an ITP myself, I know how valuable mentorship, advocacy, and shared experiences can be.
One of my proudest moments with ITPC was helping highlight a discrepancy in NAC OSCE exam scheduling, which contributed to additional exam dates being made available during the September 2026 registration cycle. It was rewarding to be part of an effort that had a tangible impact for fellow ITPs.
I hope to see ITPC continue growing as a strong national voice for internationally trained physicians and helping create more transparent and accessible pathways to practice across Canada.
Outside of medicine, I'm passionate about music, particularly classic rock and Canadian blues, with a special appreciation for the local music scene on Canada's West Coast.

Dr. Nathalia Elino
I joined ITPC to be a voice for ITPs who are struggling in their careers and need support. My proudest moment was our #OpenTheSpots #ReverseTheChange campaign, which advocated for fair access to residency positions for ITPs in Ontario and contributed to a record number of ITPs matching to residency programs.
As a volunteer with the Policy, Advocacy and Research Committee, I strive to ensure that ITPs are recognized for the highly qualified physicians we are, but often denied the opportunity to practice for inequitable reasons. Our shared goal is to provide safe, high-quality care to Canadian patients, regardless of the country in which we trained.

Dr. Emmanuel Maduike
Sought for a place to get the right information about obtaining licensure and ITPC has been my go to place for the right information.
Every advocacy impact and success stories of ITPC members are my proud moments in ITPC.
I look forward to an assured licensure pathway where ITPs can contribute positively to Canadian health.

Dr. Karyna Yankova
I joined ITPC because I wanted to make a meaningful contribution to the ITP community and help create positive changes in the licensing process for ITPs in Canada. I believe many talented physicians face unnecessary barriers, and I wanted to be part of efforts that support their success.
What has been your proudest moment since working with ITPC?
My proudest achievement has been being part of such a dedicated and passionate team of volunteers. It is especially rewarding to see ITPs achieve their goals of becoming physicians in Canada using the resources and support we help develop. Knowing that our work contributes to strengthening the Canadian healthcare system makes me very proud.
What do you want for ITPC and for ITPs/IMGs in general?
I hope ITPC continues to grow its impact and advocacy efforts. For ITPs, I want to see clear, transparent, and achievable pathways to physician licensure and practice in Canada, allowing qualified professionals to contribute their skills and experience to patient care.

Dr. Hamza irfan
I joined ITPC because of its vision to provide guidance, information, and advocacy for Internationally Trained Physicians. I wanted to contribute to advancing ITP rights and support efforts to make regulations and pathways more ITP-friendly.
My proudest moment is being part of ITPC every day and contributing to a community that supports and empowers ITPs.
I hope to see greater awareness of ITP challenges, more residency positions, and a simpler, more accessible pathway for ITPs in Canada. I believe ITPC can continue to lead positive change in this area.

Dr. Brenda Odimegwu
I decided to volunteer with ITPC because its mission resonates with me, both professionally and personally. As an ITP, I understand the frustration, uncertainty, and systemic barriers many ITPs face while trying to contribute meaningfully to Canada’s healthcare system. I joined ITPC because I wanted to be part of a movement working toward fairness, equity, and real structural change in licensure pathways.

Dr. Victor Kolawole Gbenro
As an ITP, I understand firsthand the systemic hurdles required to integrate into the Canadian healthcare system, and I joined ITPC to turn these challenges into collective action while championing systemic equity. My proudest moments with the organization have involved driving high-impact knowledge mobilization and advocacy, specifically through facilitating activities on the ITPC blog to amplify ITP voices and developing data-driven advocacy briefs for publication. Seeing these briefs come to life as tangible tools to influence policymakers has been incredibly rewarding. Moving forward, I want to see ITPC continue to grow as a leading voice in Canadian healthcare policy, ultimately achieving a more seamless, fair integration pathway where an individual's international clinical expertise is viewed as a vital community asset rather than an administrative roadblock. Beyond my health regulatory and medical background (MBBS), I hold an MSc in eHealth from McMaster University and a PMP designation, and I am deeply passionate about leveraging digital health and strategic project management to modernize healthcare delivery and improve patient outcomes.

Dr. Mundeesh Kaur
I have been ITPC’s member since 2021 and used many resources while preparing for Canadian licensure exams. ITPC’s advocacy work and efforts to bring ITPs together as a community inspired to apply for volunteer opportunities.
As a PAR volunteer, I got many opportunities to participate in healthcare stakeholder engagements especially when in 2025, the Ontario government announced a policy which left out ITPs ineligible for first iteration of CaRMS match. It was one of the best examples of strength and agility which I witnessed among ITPs.
ITPC’s strong network, communication and leadership provided me an opportunity to improve my confidence and communication skills.
I would want ITPC to continue working towards their mission with passion and wit. I hope ITPC’s contribution would help build strong healthcare policy which focuses on improving healthcare access and equity.
I am thankful to the leadership to give me an opportunity to evolve. I have become a passionate ITP advocate only because of the support of ITPC and something I will always cherish forever.

Dr. Tonya Durrant-Hall
I joined ITPC a few months after moving to Canada when I needed a resource/guide to help me figure out the exams and the CaRMS process.
My proudest moment as an ITPC volunteer was during the Ontario rule change, helping to curate the graphics that brought awareness of the situation while advocating for ITPs during that time.
I want ITPC to continue to expand and for ITPs to be able to find resources/guidance and opportunities while manoeuvring the system.
Fun fact about me is that I found a love for baking when I was homesick my second Christmas in Canada and realllly wanted homemade bread. So, I took matters into my own hands and now I absolutely love baking bread and different treats!
