Ontario’s exclusion of Internationally Trained Physicians from the CaRMS R-1 first iteration must be reversed.

Immigrant ITPs—doctors who live, work, and pay taxes here—are barred until the second round, when most positions are gone. It is also important to note that, as a result of the criterion being used, some CSAs will also be excluded from the first iteration. After years of Internationally Trained Physicians of Canada (ITPC, formerly ITPO) urging for increased residency spots, fairness, and open access to all residency positions, this change does the opposite. It closes doors instead of opening them. This isn’t an administrative tweak. It’s an act of exclusion—deliberate, discriminatory, and devastatingly un-Canadian.
